Students at
Grand Park Educational Center received some insightful words about bullying and self-motivation from Jacksonville Jaguars' cornerback Will Middleton.
Middleton shared with the group of girls and boys his triumphant story about his road to the NFL. He said that people wrote him off as being too little and too slow to play professional football, but he worked hard to prove them wrong. He encouraged the students to take advantage of every opportunity presented and to them, and to embrace those who are different.
Principal Jackie Simmons said the visit was welcomed because the students could always use encouragement from others who have a positive impact in the community.
Renzo Sheppard, a community relations representative with the Jaguars, said school visits allow the players to complete community service projects, while also giving students the opportunity see the players in a different light.
Middleton ended his visit by posing for pictures with students and faculty. To view all the pictures from Middleton's visit, check out the
DCPS' Flickr photostream.
