Schanna Speight, a teacher at
Nathan B. Forrest High School, was presented with a special award during the annual HandsOn Jacksonville Celebrate!GOOD event held at the Times Union Center for Performing Arts.
Ms. Speight was honored for her work with youth throughout the community. The former U.S. Air Force First Lieutenant returned to Jacksonville to give back to her community, school, youth and church. Upon completing her military duties, she launched a youth empowerment organization called Why Not Me, Inc. Through the program, she empowers students with self-esteem and motivation.
Ms. Speight encourages both students and parents to get involved in the program that equips them with the tools needed to develop their natural gifts and abilities.
Congratulations, Ms. Speight, on your special recognition and thank you for impacting the lives of students throughout the community!
