Two students from
Sandalwood high schools have been selected by United Way Worldwide to participate in the 2012 United Way Youth Empowerment Summit from June 19 - 21, 2012.
Uriah Oden from Raines and Andre Bass from Sandalwood will join NFL representative and Jacksonville Jaguars' offensive tackle, Eben Britton, for the summit in Washington D. C. They will join other Team NFL members in their efforts to help the United Way recruit one million volunteer readers, tutors and mentors.
Each NFL player has been teamed up with two high-performing students from his market's most challenged high schools for three days of learning, ideation, inspiration and advocacy. The goal is to inspire these core teams to go back to their communities and lead the effort to recruit more volunteers and to create a broader awareness about the education crisis at hand, and what the public can do to help. You can
pledge with Eben Britton, Uriah and Andre to cut the dropout rate in half by becoming a volunteer reader, tutor or mentor. Visit United Way's website for more information on the
Youth Empowerment Summit.
