John Larsen, the chorus director and music instructor at
First Coast High School, was selected to receive the prestigious Willis H. Page Music Achievement Award. The Willis H. Page Music Achievement Award was created to recognize a Duval County Public Schools' music teacher who has, through music, inspired students to improve their minds, gain confidence in their abilities and potential, and achieve a greater appreciation for music and education.
John Larsen, the inaugural recipient of this award, has served as the chorus director at First Coast for 21 years. Under his leadership, the First Coast Chorus program has become one of the largest and most vibrant vocal music programs in Jacksonville. Not only is Mr. Larsen able to inspire his students to enroll and engage in his music program, he and his students work in partnership to produce high quality vocal music performances that are applauded by concert audiences and music performance judges.
Through his work with the diverse student population at First Coast High School, John Larsen has afforded his students the opportunity to belong and contribute to something greater than the individual - music performance that can only be accomplished through artistic expression and creative collaboration.
