Neptune Beach Elementary is Ready to Build Strong Readers

Neptune Beach Elementary wants to start off the new school year with a strong emphasis on reading. In support of the district’s Read It Forward Jax campaign, teachers and administrators are concentrating on promoting the importance of reading during the entire first week of school with special activities to remind students to read.

The first day of school will start off with a rock concert by Chroma! In addition to the band performing, they will also speak to students about literacy and the need to develop strong reading comprehension skills.

To get the students excited about reading and being back in school, each classroom will compete throughout the first week to see who will have the most students purchasing school lunches. The winning classroom will receive a class set of books from Vincent Taylor’s Cornbread series, donated by Chartwells.

Other activities students will participate in during this first week will include creating bookmarks, participating in D.R.O.P, receiving ribbons, holding a DEAR activity and signing a reading pledge. To see a list of speakers and readers present at the DEAR program, click here.
