Chaffee Trail Elementary is Growing Great Minds

Chaffee Trail Elementary is Growing Great Minds in the 2011-12 school year. The school recently held a flag raising ceremony as a shining example of patriotism and pride in their school, county, state and country.

In addition to pledging the flag and singing the National Anthem, students were greeted by surprise visitors from Jacksonville’s arena football team, the Jacksonville Sharks. Shark players Vladimir Richards and Marco Capozzoli spoke to students about the importance of school and becoming lifelong readers. Principal Walker continued to encourage the students and parents to check out the Read It Forward Jax webpage for additional details on how they can participate in this program.

The highlight of this annual event is the announcement of the reading challenge. Last year, students met the challenge and read well over 80,000 books. This year’s reading challenge is 85,000 books. This means students will collectively read 85,000 books by the end of the school year! If the students meet this challenge, they will get to dump buckets of garden soil and worms over Principal Walker's head.

This inspiring event set the tone for a great year of “Growing Great Minds” at Chaffee Trail Elementary, and the teachers and students are excited to Read It Forward!
