Mandarin Oaks Wins Chevy Back-to-School Challenge

Mandarin Oaks Elementary and three other elementary schools participated in the Chevy Back-to-School Challenge. The schools were pitted against each other to win $2,000 toward programs, technology or other specific needs the school sees fit.

Each school was asked to submit a 150-word explanation of how they would use the money to improve their school and help students thrive. Students were invited to “drive their votes” by going to an online site to vote for their school. Students and families at Mandarin Oaks pulled together to contact friends, family and community members to support the school through the voting process. The site also provided safety tips from “On the Go” Safe Kids of Northeast Florida as a reminder to parents.

Here is Mandarin Oak’s submission:

“Mandarin Oaks Elementary School has been an “A” school for the past 10 years. Part of our success has depended upon our faculty and students being on the cutting edge utilizing technology. Teachers at MOE have taken training seminars on how to integrate the use of technology into instruction in order to enhance the curriculum. The cost of the interactive technology is prohibitive particularly due to the recent budget cuts, so we have had to discover new and innovative funding to provide these items. We would use this $2, 000 to purchase students interactive tablets and response systems to monitor classroom learning. These would be used for formal and/or informal assessments and provide students with immediate feedback from their teachers about their academic progress.

We are asking our families now more than ever for their support. Please show your support and vote for MOE!”

Congratulations Mandarin Oaks Elementary!
