Don Brewer Elementary Holds Reading Kick-off Event

Don Brewer Elementary teachers and students gathered around the school’s flag pole for the annual Reading Kick-off.

To add some excitement to the event, students, teachers and staff dressed up as their favorite book character. Characters ranging from Ms. Frizzle (Magic School Bus) to Little Red Riding Hood and Pinkalicious were seen around the school throughout the day.

Mary Heaney, from Jacksonville Public Library (Regency branch), spoke to students about the importance of reading and visiting their local library after school and on the weekends.

Students set an impressive goal to read 30,000 books for the school year and will track their progress through a reading thermometer that will be displayed in the front office.

Don Brewer Elementary is just one of several Duval County schools working hard to Read It Forward Jax!
