Henry F. Kite Elementary Kicks Off Reading Campaign with Local Author

Local children’s author Jane Wood recently visited Henry F. Kite Elementary to help kick-off the school’s annual 25 Book/Million Words Reading Campaign. This year’s theme is “Oh, the Places You’ll Go,” and Ms. Wood helped students think about all the places they’ll go when they read.

For primary students, Ms. Wood shared her published books Trouble on the St. John’s River and Voices in St. Augustine. She also shared the inspiration behind her stories and the characters.

For intermediate students, she spoke to students as a community of writers and shared ideas for student authors to improve their writing skills. One of the highlights was Ms. Wood sharing details about Voices in St. Augustine and fun facts about the city’s history.

Since Duval County fourth-graders are studying Florida History this year; that part of Ms. Wood’s visit really piqued their interest. After the presentations, she autographed copies of her books for teachers and students.
