Andrew A. Robinson Teacher Speaks Out for National Bullying Prevention Month

William Jackson, physical education teacher at Andrew A. Robinson Elementary speaks out for anti-bullying through his “I Will Survive Bullying” presentations. During a presentation at the Boys and Girls Club Keystone Leadership Conference in Orlando, Mr. Jackson spoke to students from across the nation as they shared fears, apprehensions and distress on attending school due to the threat of bullying. The students’ testimonies revealed the measures they are willing to take to avoid bullying including missing days of school or lunches, avoiding bus rides and carrying weapons on school campus.

October is National Bullying Prevention month. The ever-increasing amount of bullying cases in schools, communities, neighborhoods and churches continues to show the prevalence and widespread damage of bullying.

“Bullying is a violation of human rights and must be stopped with education, compassion, empathy and love,” said Mr. Jackson.

President Barack Obama has helped to focus national attention on bullying to insure that parents and teachers are making necessary efforts to stop bullies. The first-lady, Michelle Obama also took a platform against bullying and the negative, lasting effects it places on students. Mrs. Obama emphasized the influence parents and teachers have over students in a plea for adults to become more engaged in discussions and preventative measures regarding bullying.
