Paul Soares, DCPS’ chief officer of operations support, played for the Navy in the 1981 Liberty Bowl against Ohio State.
Last weekend, the Navy played a home football game against Southern Miss at the Naval Academy. During the half time show, Mr. Soares was joined by fellow 1981 Navy football players at mid-field to be recognized for the 30-year reunion of the Liberty Bowl game.
The packed stadium watched their game footage, as the 1981 team was honored with hats and other gear in remembrance of their accomplishments. The 1981 Navy team also congregated for a pre-game tailgate and dinner.
Mr. Soares was a stand-out athlete at the Naval Academy. He was named defensive captain of the 1982 Navy Football team and selected as the Defensive Most Valuable Player for the 1983 Hula Bowl.
Congratulations on all your achievements and your service in the United States Navy, Mr. Soares!
