San Mateo Elementary Bullying Victim Stops the Violence

Breeanna D., a fifth-grader at San Mateo Elementary has first-hand experience of what it feels like to be a victim of bullying. Rather than let bullying take over her life, Breeanna decided to take a proactive stance to stop the violence.

Breeanna created the Bully Busters’ Club, which brings social awareness to bullying and gives students tips and strategies to prevent bullying.

Approximately 400 of Breeanna’s classmates joined in the Bully Busters’ kick-off event. The students united with purple shirts and paraded around the recreation field, listening to a musical selection from disc jockey and fifth-grade teacher, Mr. Whiteley.

Several students made anti-bullying posters, and each had the opportunity to sign an anti-bullying pledge.

The student-run club has brought more than 100 students together in their support for bullying prevention techniques.
