Students at
Richard L. Brown Elementary proudly walked side-by-side with their fathers for the school’s “Donuts with Dads” event. More than 100 dads arrived at the school, dressed in suits, uniforms, shorts and slippers to share special time with the students.
The day’s focus was on literature as the dads enjoyed watching students present the morning announcements and daily news in the media center. Principal Session-Jones and Mrs. Mondy, assistant principal, addressed the dads on the importance of their role in the students’ lives. The air was full of excitement as the students showed their dads around the school’s campus.
Principal Session-Jones stressed the significance of quality time with parents or guardians. Regardless of whether students reside with a single mom,
single dad, grandparent, foster parents or married parents, events like this one allow parents to take part in bonding with their children.
The “Donuts with Dads” celebration provided dads the opportunity to sign the students up for a library card with the community’s East Brown Library. Before the event’s end, each dad and student were given a “Time for Me Ticket,” which entitled them to write requests for sharing time with one another.
