Similar to the story Gulliver’s Travels, a giant recently visited the students of
Andrew Robinson Elementary. However, this giant wasn’t stranded on an island like the story by Jonathan Swift. The Jacksonville Giant visited Andrew Robinson to bring encouragement, friendship, and instill the value and power of education and importance of attending college.
Andrew Robinson Elementary shares a partnership with the Jacksonville Giants this school year, allowing players to reach out to students and provide them with inspiration.
Mr. Biggs, the Giants’ team mascot, brought entertainment to the students during the week of “Jacksonville Goes to College.” Andrew Dikas, a talented Giants’ basketball player, helped the fourth- and fifth-grade students understand how crucial a college education is to become successful. Mr. Dikas shared his dreams of a basketball career and a well-rounded education. After graduating with his bachelor’s degree from Brewton-Parker College, Mr. Dikas succeeded in providing a foundation for a better life.
William Jackson, a physical education teacher at Andrew Robinson, appreciates the Giants’ participation with the students. Coach Jackson believes it’s important to hold a solid foundation, beginning in elementary school and working your way through college. He encourages students to set high goals, develop strong academic work habits and read on a daily basis.
