A festival that began with one small class of pre-kindergarteners has grown to include all of
Pinedale Elementary’s pre-kindergarten students, teachers, parents and siblings. The fifth annual Plumply Dumply Pumpkin Literacy Celebration brought a large crowd together as students enjoyed food, fun and literacy based activities.

The celebration was inspired by the book,
Plumply Dumply Pumpkin by Mary Serfozo.
Plumply Dumply Pumpkin is one of Pinedale’s Early Literacy and Learning Model (ELLM) Plus October books.
“Together, all of the classes travel from station to station, performing all kinds of activities,” said Ms. Coxey, a pre-kindergarten teacher. “The children love it. The teachers love it.”
Throughout the morning, pre-kindergarten students traveled to various stations in the classrooms. Activities included a dancing session with Ms. Coxey, trunk-or-treat with Ms. Houston, an anti-bullying movie with Ms. Slawson and creating ghost hats with Ms. Neville.
Each teacher read a different Halloween-themed book before the students moved onto the next classroom, including
Plumply Dumply Pumpkin. Principal Hinson celebrated with the students, as they paraded through the classrooms.
