Target Stores Award Books to Pinedale Elementary

Pinedale Elementary received two $500 book awards from the Southside Boulevard Target store and the Target district office. Principal Hinson was able to choose the books from a selected list.

“Non-fiction books are limited in a number of our classrooms,” said Principal Hinson. “The book awards gave me the opportunity to purchase a large number of books at various grade levels.”

Students have already begun to show interest in the non-fiction books.

“Science is a subject that fascinates [the students],” said Jane Shaffer, fifth-grade teacher. “The students enjoy learning about animals, the solar system, the body and robots. These topics seem to keep them interested in reading.”

In searching through the list of offered books from Target, Principal Hinson found it difficult to choose a selected few. The selection for non-fiction was dynamic for all ages. She also selected many multicultural books that would encourage the students to learn about different cultures. As the students begin to read the books, teachers continue to encourage the love of reading through Read it Forward Jax!.
