Celebrity Reader Stops by Alden Road Exceptional Student Center

What started with Principal Boyd reading to a class at Alden Road Exceptional Student Center has gone citywide. Alden Road welcomed celebrity reader Dr. Donnie Horner, Jacksonville’s first education commissioner, as he read “Jacksonville from A to Z” by Heather, Jamie and Peyton Surface.

Ashley, H., a 20-year-old Alden Road student, first invited the school’s new principal, Tammy Boyd, to read to the class. Upon realizing how much the class enjoyed the reading, Ashley began asking other adults to read to them. After sending an email to the Mayor’s office, the students were thrilled to learn that Dr. Horner agreed to be one of the celebrity readers.

After the reading, Dr. Horner discussed his job as the City Education Commissioner, and answered multiple questions from students. Dr. Horner even emailed Ashley his personal resume, encouraging her to write her own.
