Thanks to dozens of DCPS’ employees, the district has collected food for 150 Thanksgiving baskets.
Enough food was collected to double to amount intended for each basket. The baskets
each contained two boxes of potatoes, stuffing, corn muffin mix and cake mix,
two cake icings, two jars of gravy, two cans of cranberry and green beans, and a
$7 Winn Dixie gift card.
The Teacher Supply Depot donated many books that will be distributed with the baskets.
Dawn Gaughan, staffing supervisor for Turnaround Schools, has lead the Thanksgiving drive, encouraging employees to donate any amount of goods or money for the baskets. The department of Community and Family Engagement assisted in organizing the baskets for distribution.
The 150 baskets will benefit DCPS’ students and their families that are most in need. They will be picked up by designees Friday, November 18 and Monday, November 21, 2011 before the Thanksgiving holiday.
Thank you for any and all donations! Happy Thanksgiving!
