Eight lucky San Mateo Elementary choral students had the opportunity to participate in
LaVilla School of the Arts’ second annual “Side by Side” concert. These students, along with other DCPS’ students, were invited to attend based on their musicianship, dedication and enthusiasm.

The students spent the morning in rehearsal alongside LaVilla’s advanced choral students who acted as their mentors. They performed under the direction of Mr. Pendry, choral director at LaVilla. Students practiced rehearsal strategies, correct vocal production, music reading skills and learned new songs. The highlight of the day occurred in the LaVilla school theatre when students performed a concert for family and friends.
