Raines High Welcomes Eight Men into Rainesmen

William M. Raines High School announces eight male students into the school’s oldest student organization, Rainesmen. The fall 2011 induction and bonfire presentation inducted “The Elite 8” students as new members.

Congratulations to the following students:

• Alton C., senior
• Brandon S., sophomore
• Dominique M., senior
• Donte S., junior
• Kenneth B., senior
• Lawrence B., senior
• Miles W., senior
• Tyre’ S., sophomore

The Honorable Betty Burney, Duval County School Board Vice Chairman, and Principal Maxey participated in the induction exercises. Members of the Sisters of Scholar and Zeta Chi Elite hosted the ceremony, bringing Viking pride to the event.

Rainesmen is the oldest and longest serving student organization in the history of Raines High, which was founded in 1965. All Rainesmen inductees submitted applications and were formally accepted into the organization. The men must maintain a 2.8 cumulative grade point average with no referrals during the year of acceptance or thereafter.

Students wrote essays answering the question: Why is it important to set and achieve goals? They requested teacher recommendations as additions to the applications. The members of Rainesmen choose to dedicate themselves to responsible citizenship and service at school and throughout the community.
