Students at
Crystal Springs Elementary and
Westview K-8 schools have the ability to voice self expression through participation in two new artist residency classes offered at the schools. VSA Florida announced the commencement of the classes this month, which last for eight sessions.
Multidisciplinary artist Chris Kastle will teach Crystal Spring Elementary’s residency program, while visual artist Beryl Bayer will take on the program at Westview K-8.
The school’s artist residency programs foster opportunities for students, including those with disabilities, to successfully learn life skills through the arts. The arts enable students to enhance capacity to think across cultural boundaries. VSA Florida encourages the arts as an outlet for communication, and a means to unite students of all abilities towards a sense of self-accomplishment.
Thanks to First Coast News and the Gannett Foundation, under general manager Dodie Cantrell-Bickley for funding the artist residency programs. The first two programs took place at Holiday Hill Elementary and Reynolds Lane Elementary schools.
