Woodland Acres Elementary celebrated health and exercise at its annual Family Fitness Night. The night was filled with hands-on activities that teach students how to make health fun for the whole family.
Students joined parents and teachers in activities such as bowling, hula hooping and jump roping. A how-to session was provided on the Adventures to Fitness exercise program, including a lesson on the use of pedometers. Food from the school’s organic garden was used to prepare healthy snacks.
As one of the two Duval County elementary schools with a Medical Arts Magnet program, Woodland Acres Elementary extended the health promotion with an opportunity to measure heart rates. Students and their families now have the tools and education to make healthy choices and remain active together.
