Raines High School Inducts 10 Members into Sisters of Scholar

Congratulations to the newest members of Raines High School’s Sisters of Scholar organization. Sisters of Scholar was founded in December 2010 at Raines High by current faculty sponsors Ms. Okeia Watson, volunteer liaison, and Ms. Jennifer Ford, science teacher.

The elite organization commends its members on their accomplishments, volunteerism, leadership and academic achievements. The following students have fulfilled the club requirements and are proud to join this sisterhood:

• Aleshia H.;
• Delisha R.;
• Indria B.;
• Kayla B.;
• Monica J.;
• Nakedra S.;
• Nakimya L.;
• Nicole W.;
• Tekirria R.; and
• Tiara J.

The fall induction ceremony welcomed guest speaker Youmone Berrien, the 2011 Florida Blue Teacher of the Year and standards coach at Ribault High School. The Sisters of Scholar members united on the stage to show their connectivity.

All inductees submitted applications and were formally accepted into the organization. The students must maintain a minimum 2.8 cumulative grade point average, provide 8-10 community service hours each month and obtain teacher recommendations. The ladies wrote essays in response to the question, “Why is it important to set and achieve goals?”

Sisters of Scholar’s motto is: Inspire the woman; impact the world. The young women in this organization work to inspire each other as they progress in their studies. By working at school-wide literacy assemblies, beautification projects and holiday toy drives, Sisters of Scholar leaves a positive impression on their peers.
