As students from 14 Duval County elementary schools arrived for class, many surprises awaited them as part of “A Visit from St. Nicholas.” HandsOn Jacksonville worked with a team of more than 600 volunteers from 50 local businesses and foundations to put books in the hands and smiles on the faces of every student at these schools.
Thousands of students were shocked as they walked through the hallways, which were covered in gold tinsel. As they entered their classrooms, each student was greeted with a backpack filled with books and toys.
To keep the excitement rolling, a green-robed St. Nicholas traveled amongst the classrooms to deliver gold coins to the students. When the students received
the coins, St. Nicholas gave them a reminder to share with others in the spirit of the holidays. Volunteers also visited the classes to read the story of St. Nicholas.
Thank you to HandsOn Jacksonville and all the volunteers from local businesses and organizations for bringing holiday magic to these 14 elementary schools: Annie R. Morgan, Biltmore, Carter G. Woodson, Cedar Hills, Central Riverside, George Washington Carver, Hyde Park, Long Branch, North Shore, Pine Estates, St. Clair Evans Academy, S. P. Livingston, Spring Park and Woodland Acres.
