West Jacksonville Elementary held their first Parent Involvement Night, focusing on literacy, technology and family fun. More than 200 people gathered for the event.
Students were given a free book donated by Books-A-Go-Go. Parents enjoyed a student performance by the Team-Up afterschool program and a presentation on reading instruction and assessments used within the school. Families also had the opportunity to gather supplies for learning games that can be used at home. As they circled through the set stations, students and parents learned about computer games which improved upon reading and comprehension.
The success of Parent Involvement Night allowed students to connect with their parents and bring learning to all aspects of life. The evening ended with a raffle where 15 food baskets donated by Mt. Calvary Baptist Church were given to the families.
