Venetia Elementary was filled with experiments, laughter and learning as families joined in a school-wide Science Night. Venetia’s fifth-grade scientists hosted the evening and led experiments at science stations throughout the hallways.
Students and their families moved between stations as they learned about surface tension, tornadoes, electricity and chemical changes. Volunteer entomologists from NAS Jacksonville spoke about the various kinds of insects found in Northeast Florida. The entomologists brought examples of these insects ranging from butterflies to cockroaches. Families were able to understand how these small critters affect the local ecosystem.
As the hosts of the night, the fifth-graders showed off their scientific knowledge building excitement for students and their parents to continue learning about scientific concepts at home.
