Andrew Robinson Elementary Reads It Forward at Reading Celebration

In support of Read It Forward Jax!, students at Andrew Robinson Elementary participated in a mid-year reading celebration as a reward for striving to meet their goal of reading one million words by the end of the year. Andrew Robinson’s principal, teachers and staff want the students to know they are proud of the progress they have made thus far.

The morning began with the recognition of the top five readers from the entire school on the morning announcements. These five students have read more than 500,000 words so far this school year. In addition, the top readers from each grade level were announced, along with the pre-kindergarten and kindergarten top reading classes.

The top five readers were awarded a special gift to congratulate them on accomplishing such an impressive task (See list below). Each one of these students received a Kindle reader and a gift card to purchase their favorite books. The student who read the most words, reading more than one million words, received a Kindle, two gift cards, a reading chair, pajamas and slippers to use over the winter break.

Following the morning announcements, all students, parents and mentors were invited to participate in the A.R.E. Reading Extravaganza. When they entered the multi-purpose room, students were given a passport to take to different stations and get signed after completing each reading activity. Students who had read approximately 500,000 words were also allowed to enjoy the fun bounce house outside after participating in the Reading Extravaganza.

Special guests at the event included School Board member Paula D. Wright, members from the Jacksonville Giants and the Giants’ mascot, and a New England Patriots’ player. Both the Jacksonville Giants’ players and the New England Patriots’ player signed books for the students to take home with them. Every student in the school left with a book of their own to continue reading outside the classroom.

During the event, the top readers and spelling bee winners posed for a picture with Board member Paula D. Wright, the Jacksonville Giants and their mascot, Mr. Biggs. All of the students and parents thoroughly enjoyed the event and are excited to continue reaching for their goal of reading one million words.
