Congratulations to Shauna Burrell, a ninth-grader at
Forrest High School for winning the Florida Times-Union’s 2011 Holiday Short Story Contest! Out of 282 submissions for seventh- through twelfth-grade, Shauna took home the gold medal.
This year’s contest called for students to place the short story’s setting on Christmas Eve in a train station, a bus depot or an airport. Entries were judged by Times-Union reporters and editors.
Shauna’s story, “A Homeless Christmas,” is an endearing story that is sure to touch your heart. For her first-prize win, Shauna will receive $50 and her story will be printed in the Florida Times-Union on Christmas Eve.
