Admit it: Everyone loves field trips. They are fun, educational and best of all… they get you out of school.
Recently, Mr. Tucker Pryor and his Financial Algebra classes from
Baldwin Middle-Senior High School went on a fun field trip. They traveled to the Oakleaf Town Center. The cost of the trip was a mere five dollars.
The students were instructed to visit three different stores and ask the managers of each the following questions:
1. What are some of the criteria you use when deciding whether or not to hire an applicant?
2. Is there anything specific that tells you immediately that you will not hire an applicant?
3. How important is a first impression? Does the way they dress affect your perception of the applicant?
4. What are some questions you typically ask applicants in an interview?
5. What is the average hourly wage of beginning employees?
The students traveled throughout Oakleaf Town Center with a friend so as not to get lost. (The school wouldn’t want that, would they?) Students checked in with the chaperones every 30 minutes.
After obtaining their answers from the store managers, the students ate lunch at the restaurant of their choice.
Though students were not required to, they could pick up job applications from the town center stores.
"I think the field trip went great," said Mr. Pryor. "I think it was a success. I feel that the students had a great experience, and hopefully a few jobs can come out of it."
The students also enjoyed themselves on the trip.
"It was nice getting a break from school," said Rachel L., a senior from Baldwin. "And I hope I got the job I applied for."
"I thought it was really fun," said Austin N., another senior on the trip. "I haven't been on a field trip since third-grade."
