More than 50 community representatives, retired librarians from Duval County Public Schools, the University of North Florida and the Jacksonville Public Library, and 20 athletes and Alpha Psi Phi Fraternity representatives from Edward Waters College (EWC) attended Andrew Robinson Elementary’s Celebrity Readers Day.
Andrew Robinson students enjoyed stories and motivational speaking from Stanley Cromartie, EWC’s athletic director, Coach Frank Burnell, men's head basketball coach, and Coach Dennison, the women's assistant basketball coach.
Also in attendance were two published authors: Marsha Dean Phelts, a retired Duval County Public Schools’ librarian, and Barbara Sarvis, a well-known artist and illustrator.
Even Rosie the Reading Dog came out to read along with her partner, Ed Attalla, head groundskeeper for the Jacksonville Suns. The reading event wouldn’t have been complete without Peter Bragan Jr. from the Suns, Ken Amaro from First Coast News, and Mike Clark from The Florida Times-Union.
In addition to all of these readers, the school had readers from TD Bank, Florida Blue, Maggiano’s and Panera Bread of Regency. The diversity of readers matched the diverse interests in the books that were read at Andrew Robinson Elementary!
