Gifted Students at San Mateo Elementary Welcome Parents to the School
During October, more than 100 parents and students converged on San Mateo Elementary for the annual Gifted Program Open House. The Gifted Open House is held separately in October because the students come from 14 different public and private schools.
The meeting began in the school cafeteria with refreshments and informational talks given by the two teachers of the gifted program, Ms. Zieler and Mrs. Bowman. The students then led their parents to the classroom where they shared creative projects and unit studies and explained elements of their day in the gifted program.
First- and second-grade gifted students responded to the reading of a book about arachnids by working in pairs to create a large drawing that answered the question, "What would happen if you were shrunk down to the size of a spider and had to live in the world of bugs?"
