VOLUNTEERS
Volunteer Screening Policy
Volunteers are an important part of student
success in Duval County Public Schools. Our community
contributes hundreds of thousands of volunteer hours
each year, and we sincerely appreciate all that our
volunteers do on behalf of our students.
The safety of our students is our number one
priority thus, the Duval County School Board adopted a
criminal background screening process as one of the
means to keep our children safe. This policy
requires all school volunteers to complete an online volunteer
application and undergo a basic criminal background
screening before performing any volunteer duties. This
policy applies to all volunteers, including classroom
volunteers, field trip chaperones, event helpers and
others. *Mentors are required to undergo a
finger-print background screening and training through
the Jacksonville Children's Commission, as they often
work alone with students.
If you anticipate volunteering in any way in a
Duval County public school during the school year, we
encourage you to complete a volunteer application online
as early as possible to ensure that you will be ready to
volunteer. The application is on a secure site,
and every effort is made to keep your information safe.
Information is not shared with anyone outside of the
background screening process.
If you wish to volunteer but have concerns
about information that a background screening may
produce, please don't hesitate to call us at 390-2960.
In many cases, this information will not prevent you
from becoming a volunteer. We will be happy to discuss
your individual situation with you and answer any
questions you may have.
