VOLUNTEER PROGRAMS
MENTORING What is mentoring? Mentoring is one-on-one relationships established between caring adults and students who need a little extra help and support. Mentoring is a powerful initiative with a proven record of improving students' grades and self-esteem, and raising their goals and expectations.

What is your role as a mentor? Mentors work with students, serving as coaches, supporters, role models, and advocates.

As a mentor, you work closely with the classroom teachers and school staff. Mentoring activities at the elementary level include reading, playing games, participating in hobbies, discussing school and favorite activities, and building the student's confidence. At the middle and high school level, activities are focused more on goal setting, discussing career interests, and encouraging college preparation.

Duval County Public Schools welcomes your participation as a mentor. To get involved, call the Community Involvement Office at 904-390-2960, or contact the school of your choice directly and speak with the volunteer coordinator.
