Principal for a Day

What is the Principal for a Day project?
The Principal for the day project encourages the private sector to take a leadership role in public education through having the opportunity to play the role of Principal for one day. The goal of the program is for community and business stakeholders to translate their one day experience into a long-term relationship with the school thus supporting the overall academic achievement of students.

Who participates in the Principal for a Day project?
Passionate individuals who wish to translate their passion into action through partnering with a public school; have expertise and interests that can benefit the school community; and are willing to leverage professional and personal resources to support their partner school’s needs to increase student well-being.

What is the schedule and time commitment for the Principal for a Day project?
Once an individual completes the application to participate and is approved, arrangements will be made for the individual to be matched with a school. Start times will vary depending on the various schools selected.  Participants will be given an orientation packet prior to the event. Following the school visits, a Pseudo-Principal celebration/de-briefing will occur at  the Duval County Public Schools Administration Building, 1701 Prudential Drive, in room 613. All participants are encouraged to attend.

May I choose which school to partner with?
Yes. We will make every attempt to match you with your requested school; however, please keep in mind that your first choice may not be available.  All of our schools have the ability to offer an extraordinary experience and opportunity for a lasting partnership.
