Opportunity Scholarship Program
Florida Statute 1002.38 requires
that students who either by assigned attendance area or
by district placement spent the 2010-2011 school year in
a school eligible for the Opportunity Scholarship
Program or who by assigned attendance area or
district placement are projected to attend a public
school for 2011-2012 school year that is eligible for
the Opportunity Scholarship Program be given the
opportunity to transfer to another school with a
performance grade category of “C” or higher. An eligible
school is a school that is designated by the Florida
Department of Education as having a performance grade
category “D” or “F” for 2011 and is in one of the two
(2) lowest performing categories of F.S. 1008.33.
Because your child meets one of
the above criteria, you are eligible to participate in
the Opportunity Scholarship Program and you may select
one of the following options:
-
You may
choose to have your child remain at the
current or projected school.
Please be aware that resources may be
available at your current or projected
school that may not be provided at the
school of choice.
-
You may
choose to transfer your child to another
public school that has been graded "C"
or higher. Transportation will be
provided for elementary and middle
school students. High school students
may opt for a school that has
district-provided transportation
or they may select an option
that does not include transportation. A
transfer application and a listing of
school choice options appropriate for
your grade level are included with this
letter. If you decide to apply for a
transfer, you should follow the
directions on the application form.
You may also access your application
online at
www.duvalchoice.com; select the
Opportunity Scholarship Program tab and
then click on link “apply online.”
-
You may
choose to transfer your child to another
public school that has been graded "C"
or higher that has available space in an
adjacent school district. However,
transportation will be your
responsibility and admission will be
based on the other school district's
adopted criteria.
If you want to transfer to
another school, you must complete and submit an
application to the School Choice Office in the DCPS’
administration building at 1701 Prudential Drive, 32207,
by August 5,
2011. You will be notified either by mail or by
phone regarding the 2011-2012 school assignment for your
child. Transportation information will be
included, if appropriate.
