Community Education programs are offered at 23 school sites throughout the Duval County area. The major goal of Community Education is to utilize the resources of the entire community by encouraging the cooperation of private and public agencies in providing educational, social, and recreational services. Community Education supports daily school programs through enrichment and/or remedial classes, services, and activities. The school sites serve youth and adults with activities in a variety of areas. Throughout the year, community education offers over
950 classes with approximately 20,000 participants. The program also offers space for group meetings, recreation activities, and events. More than
900 activities are held annually with over 100,000 participants.
Some of the classes offered include computers (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Introduction, and Internet), various types of dance, pottery, tennis, investments, cooking, sewing, aerobics, flower arranging, basketry, tai chi, yoga, belly dancing, typing, jewelry making, karate, photography, watercolor, oil painting, arts/crafts, and many more
Information listing the community education schools and classes are mailed out twice a year: once in early August and again after the winter holidays. You can stop by the Community Education office or individual schools to pick up a copy if you do not receive a copy in the mail.
