Turnaround Designation Criteria
Schools within the Duval County Public School district that are defined as those
with the highest needs will be given the designation of "Turnaround School" based upon the following criteria:
Elementary & Middle Schools – Have both a school FCAT total point score of 430 or below and any level Schools in Need of Improvement (SINI) status
High Schools – Have a school FCAT total point score of 430 or below
Superintendent's Designation (SD) –
Schools may be added or removed as a Turnaround School at the discretion of the Superintendent, based
on unique circumstances (i.e. academic, feeder patterns of highest needs schools, etc.)
Mandatory Year of Support (MY) –
Completed at least one year in Turnaround status and meets Turnaround Exit Criteria component of achieving a
school FCAT total points gain of 10 points or more above the Turnaround Entry Criteria Cut Score (i.e. Minimum
FCAT total point score of 440)
Rising STAR Schools (RS) - Turnaround schools that have achieved FCAT total point gains
of 10 points or more above the Turnaround Entry Criteria Cut Score (i.e. Minimum FCAT total point score of 440)
for two or more consecutive years. These schools will continue to receive additional services, resources, and
support (internal and external) as funding allows. This continued support will allow these schools the
additional time and opportunity to make the processes and procedures that led to their high academic achievement
to become an embedded and consistent part of the school's culture and "way of work."
