EE/SS Advisory committee

The Exceptional Education & Student Services Advisory Committee (EE/SSAC) membership includes parents, teachers, Exceptional Education & Student Services staff, administrators, and community agency representatives. Together We're Better!

What is the purpose of the Committee?
The primary objective of this committee will be to serve in an advisory capacity on those matters that affect schools, students and the community. Included in these duties will be:

  • To advise the Duval County Public Schools Exceptional Education & Student Services (DCPS EE/SS) Department of unmet needs within the county.
  • To advise the DCPS EE/SS Department in developing and implementing policies relating to the coordination of services for children with special needs.
  • To review data.
  • To comment as an organization publicly on any rules or regulations proposed by the Department of Education (DOE) regarding the education of children with special needs.
  • To provide representation to task forces, advisory committees, etc., at the local, state, and national levels.
  • To provide insight and direction from a parent and community point of view to the DCPS EE/SS department.

The EE/SSAC shall also perform those duties assigned to it by the District Improvement Plan.

The EE/SSAC present a series of free workshops for families of Duval County Public Schools students receiving EE/SS services:

  • September 11, 2008: Exceptional Education/Student Services
    (EE/SS)/Initiatives/Updates/Challenges

  • October 14, 2008: Sunshine State Standards Access Points, Florida Alternate Assessment and Diploma Options: What Parents Need to Know

  • November 13, 2008 (6 p.m.) Attendance, Discipline and Dropout

  • February 12, 2009: Behavior Strategies for Pre-K and Early Elementary Age Students

The 14th Annual "Tools for Success" Conference

The Fourteenth Annual "Tools for Success" Conference benefiting Families of Children with Special Needs in Northeast Florida will take place on February 25, 2009 at the Schultz Center for Teaching and Leadership. It is a FREE conference for families, educators and professionals.

The "Tools for Success" Family Conference is a collaborative community effort through the Duval County Public Schools, Clay County Public Schools, Nassau County Public Schools, Florida Diagnostic and Learning Resources System (FDLRS/Crown), ASK at ARC Jacksonville, UF Center for Autism & Related Disabilities (CARD), Family Network on Disabilities of Florida (FND), Florida Inclusion Network (FIN), Central Florida Parent Center (CFPC), Spina Bifida Association, SEDNET and other community agencies and parent groups.
