Cindy Fitch has taught in Duval County
for more than 27 years. She believes that teachers have
the power to turn around the lives of students each day.
She tries to find something positive to say to her
students every day. For seven years, her class of fifth
graders has been one of the top five schools in the
county on the FCAT Math. Cindy believes that her
students are successful because they are confident and
they believe in themselves. They also know that their
teacher believes in them and they learn in a safe,
respectful environment.
Cindy also trains new teachers and
mentors through teaching ESOL courses. She spends time
learning about new trends, strategies and new
expectations of the county and state. She models and
shares information she learns through her mentoring
experiences.
“My classroom environment is one of
acceptance, tolerance and respect. We laugh, learn, love
and listen. This is a place where you’re not afraid to
answer a question or to ask one.”
~Cindy Fitch
“There are many teachers who can teach.
What sets Ms. Fitch apart is her commitment to give 5th
graders an incredible overall experience and sendoff
from elementary school. Her annual production of
‘American Grandstand’ is the culmination of the 5th
grader’s year and is what every student kindergarten
through 5th grade looks forward to.”
