office of equal opportunity/equal access
grievance appeal procedure for applicants
The settlement of discrimination grievances is of primary importance to the Equal Opportunity Program. Therefore, the Equal Opportunity/Equal Access Supervisor will assure that all discrimination grievances are settled as quickly as possible.
Discrimination means a difference in treatment based on race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age or disability, where such difference is not justified by business necessity or is not job-related.
Applicants for positions with the Duval County Public Schools are to file discrimination grievances in the following manner:
- An applicant who feels that he/she has been discriminated against will report such discrimination to the Office of Equal Opportunity/Equal Access immediately. (The employee has 20 days to report such an incident.)
- The Equal Opportunity/Equal Access Supervisor will schedule an appointment with the employee within five (5) working days after the incident has been reported to the Office of Equal Opportunity/Equal Access.
- Retaliation against a complainant or any other party involved in the investigation of a complaint are violations hereof, and may be grounds for disciplinary action.
- Complainants who feel that they have been retaliated against for exercising their rights should file a complaint with the Office of Equal Opportunity/Equal Access.
All claims will be held in confidence.
