MAP Performance Pay Bonuses for Teachers and
School-based Administrators

On Wednesday, September 30, 2009, MAP performance pay bonuses for the 08-09 school year will be paid to over 1900 teachers and school based administrators by direct deposit. A few teachers may get paper checks if they are in the process of changing banks. The bonus is $2,330 (minus taxes) for all who qualify. As a reminder, this year the total amount allotted by the state legislature for MAP was approximately $5.3 million. This is $1.7 million less than last year; therefore, the number of teachers receiving the award is smaller than last year.

The attached document contains a list of everyone receiving MAP bonuses. Individuals are identified by PIN number. Attached is a MAP Appeal Form with specific directions for staff members who feel they did not receive the MAP bonus due to a mistake. This appeal form must be completed and e-mailed as specified on the form by October 6th at 11:59 p.m.

This Duval County Public Schools Merit Award Plan for 2007-2009 (“Plan”), developed for submittal to the Florida Commissioner of Education pursuant to FS 1012.225, is a pay for performance system that rewards teachers and school leaders for improved student performance. The District will determine an amount equal to at least 5% of the District’s average teacher salary to be awarded to all of the top performing personnel, regardless of years of experience, according to the terms of the Plan.

Identification of outstanding personnel will be generated jointly from improved student performance ratings provided by FCAT and District data (60%) and their performance rating on the Teacher Assessment System (40%).

Continuation of the implementation of the Plan is contingent upon funding from the Florida Legislature. Implementation of any future performance pay programs will be based on requirements of Florida Statutes.
