Florida School-based administrators are required
to hold a valid Florida Educator certificate with the
appropriate administrator coverage.

Renewing your Professional Certificate
You are required to complete six semester hours
of appropriate college credit or its
equivalent during the validity period of
your professional certificate.
If you plan to submit college credit it must be
from an accredited institution. Your
transcripts must show a grade of “pass,
satisfactory, or at least “C” for each course.
To renew using coursework/or exams you may
download the necessary forms
here,
complete and submit with the appropriate fee to
the certification office. To renew using
Master In-service points, contact Professional
Development at 348-7847.
Reinstating or Renewing an
Expired Professional Certificate
Administrators
may renew their professional
certificate up to one year after it expires
IF the necessary requirements were completed
within the certificate’s validity period. Submit
a
renewal application, required documentation, and
necessary fees to the DCPS Certification Office.
*School-based Administrators You must have a
valid certificate to teach.
If you have not completed the necessary
requirements, it may be possible to apply for
reinstatement. To reinstate, submit an
application, required fees, six semester hours
(completed in the last five years) or the
equivalent and subject area examination scores
to the FLDOE.
College Credit Equivalents
60 in-service points in an approved Florida
Master In-Service Program is equivalent to a
three semester hour college course.
A passing score on the Florida subject area testspecific to the coverage being renewed is
the equivalent of a three semester hour college
course.
Appropriate college teaching experience
at an approved institution may be accepted as
equivalent to the credit earned for that course.

fee (check or money order) to the appropriate
office.

The Professional Development Office processes
additions via completed Master In-service
Programs for any certificate type. Call 348-7800
for assistance.
ESOL Information
Teachers who are assigned English Language
Learners (ELL) students must obtain the required
ESOL training or certification within a
designated timeframe. Please review the ESOL
information brochure.
