All professionally certified personnel must renew
their certificates every five years. It is important
that you know your certification requirements, and are
aware of the “June 30th” deadline. Please refer to the
following links for information that will assist you in
meeting your certification deadlines.
Staying Employed Checklist
Renewing your Professional
Certificate
You are required to
complete six semester hours of appropriate
college credit or its equivalent during the validity period of your
professional certificate.
If you plan to submit college credit
it must be from an
accredited institution. Your transcripts
must show a grade of “pass,
satisfactory, or at least “C” for
each course.
To renew using coursework/or exams submit an
application, documentation, and processing fee
to the certification office via school mail or
US mail. To renew using Master In-service
points, contact Professional Development at
348-7847.
Reinstating your Professional Certificate
If you have completed the necessary requirements
within the validity
period of your professional certificate, and your certificate has not
expired for more than (1) year, you may renew by submitting a
renewal
application, processing fee, and late fee to the certification office.
If you have not completed
the necessary requirements, it may be possible
to apply for
reinstatement. To reinstate, submit an
application, processing fee, six semester hours
(completed in the last five years)
or the equivalent and subject area examination
scores to the
FLDOE.
College Credit Equivalents
60 in-service points in an
approved Florida Master In-Service Program is equivalent to a three semester hour college course.
A passing score on the Florida
subject area test specific to the coverage
being renewed is the equivalent of a three semester hour college course.
Appropriate college teaching experience
at an approved institution may be accepted as equivalent to the credit earned
for that course.
A valid certificate issued by the
National Board for Professional Teaching
Standards will renew the Florida certificate for the subject(s) on the national
certificate.
Adding a Subject Area
Additions to Professional Certificates occur by
subject test only. Submit an
application, score report, and $75
processing fee (check or money order only made
payable to Duval County Public Schools) to the
certification office via school mail or US mail.
The Professional
Development Office processes additions via
completed Master In-service Programs for any
certificate type. Call 348-7807 for assistance.
Requesting a Duplicate
Certificate
DCPS employees can request a duplicate
certificate by submitting an
application, score report, and $20
processing fee (check or money order only made
payable to Duval County Public Schools) to the
certification office via school mail or US mail.
Out-of-Field Information
Teaching out-of-field means that you are
teaching a course for which the appropriate
subject coverage is not shown on your teaching
certificate.
Florida law requires that you successfully
complete six semester hours (or the equivalent)
per year toward certification in your
out-of-field subject. Review your
certification options
for assistance.

Learners (ELL) students must
