Your Statement of Status of Eligibility is your guide for obtaining professional certification. It is important that you know your certification requirements, and are aware of the “June 30th” deadline. Please refer to the following links for information that will assist you in meeting your certification deadlines.

Staying Employed Checklist

  • Moving from a Temporary to a Professional

    • Your Statement of Status of Eligibility (SOE) outlines each of your requirements for obtaining professional certification.

    • Note that you must pass the General Knowledge (GK) exam within your first year of hire in Florida, prior to June 30th; unless you are hired in Florida after the school year begins - in which case you may be allowed until June 30th of the following school year.

    • Your SOE will outline your education coursework requirements. You may want to consider an alternative certification program, which will satisfy your coursework and professional education competence requirements.

    • You must pass the Professional Education exam and the appropriate Subject Area exams before your temporary certificate expires.

    • After completing the above requirements and your practical experience in teaching you may apply for your professional certificate online. Do not wait until the last minute to apply. Application processing can take up to 90 days.

  • Adding a Subject Area

    • Submit a completed Addition Application and processing fee to the FLDOE.

  • ESOL Information

    • Teachers who are assigned English Language Learners (ELL) must complete the required ESOL training or certification within a designated timeframe. Please review the ESOL information brochure.

  • Out-of-Field Information

    • Teaching out-of-field means that you are teaching a course for which the appropriate subject coverage is not shown on your teaching certificate. Please review your certification options.
