  • The DCPS Professional Development department offers a comprehensive Teacher Induction And Support Program for teachers new to the district.

  • The district Alternative Certification Program offers on-line and in-service programs to new DCPS teachers who require a certification program.

  • Transition to Teaching is a federal grant that supports programs for career changers interested in teaching critical shortage subjects in the district's high-need schools.

  • Job Sharing is an innovative program available to teachers who wish to share one teaching position. This is an ideal situation for individuals who want to teach and pursue additional goals.

  • In addition to the many outstanding College of Education programs that provide the district with qualified teachers, DCPS is fortunate to have the following programs: 

  • Educators of Change, a program that recruits successful community members to teach in high-need schools.

  • The Urban Elementary Apprenticeship, which offers a holistic training program that provides on-the-job training and professional certification in elementary education K-6.

  • We are also fortunate to work with national and worldwide teacher recruitment programs to meet the diverse needs of our students. Teach for America and Visiting International Faculty both offer unique programs, which have provided high quality teachers for our district.
