Class of 1997 Hello John Stockton! (PFC Amie J. McMillan)
I am a former student of the John Stockton Elementary school. I attended Kindergarten through 4th Grade-- 1991-1996. I am currently deployed to Iraq with the U.S. Army. We will be here for 15 months.

I have to credit Stockton for the wonderful education I received throughout my years at the school. I remember I had Ms. Sutton (Kindergarten), Ms. Francis (1st grade), Ms. Parson (2nd
grade), Ms. Lillard (3rd grade) and Ms. Miller (4th grade). Actually, I believe we had several teachers in 4th grade because the school started  the changing of classes.

My official Army title is a Public Affairs Specialist, which is a photojournalist. I love my job and I have been able to experience many wonderful opportunities and meet so many different people.

Keep up the great education system you have at John Stockton. I'm confident that every child who attends Stockton will become intelligent and productive members of society.

I know when I attended Stockton, we had a mail program so we could write our friends in different classes. If any child would like to write the Soldiers, feel free to have them write to my address. I will ensure that they receive a pen pal.

If they want a pen pal, make sure that the address is written on the envelope exactly like the following:

PFC Amie J. McMillan
ATTN: Any Soldier

APO AE 09375

Thanks again!

Class of 1996  I think I'm from the class of 1996. I graduate from Mrs. Landschoot's class. I'm a senior in high school now. I have one week left until I graduate. I would like to thank all of the teachers that helped me. I had Mrs. Kazimar, Mrs. Cooke, Mrs. Lunsford, Mrs. Anderson, and Mrs. Landschoot. I moved to Ohio in fourth grade and came back, so I didn't have a fourth grade teacher from John Stockton. My favorite teacher was Mrs. Cooke, she was my first grade teacher, she helped me allot and was really nice and caring. I moved to Lisbon, Ohio in the middle of my sixth grade year. I've been to four different schools and John Stockton was definitely the best. I was a bad student with a temper that got me in trouble, and sent to Mrs. Hollander's office all the time. The teachers were still great even though I was horrible. I getting ready to get out of school and go on with my life. I can only hope that the people I meet in my lifetime are as great as my teachers from this school. I only wish those teachers were there to help me make my decisions on what to do after I graduate. I know what they taught me will help me to make the right choices. Thanks allot and every one of your students will appreciate you in the future, if not now. John Triner, Class of 04

Hello.

This is Jonathan Philips. I graduated in 1991 and had Ms. Carroll (2nd grade), Ms. Anderson (3rd grade), Ms. Shabazz (4th grade), and Ms. Landschoot (5th grade). After Stockton I attended St. Matthews Catholic Grade School and then graduated from Bishop Kenny High School in 1998. I graduated from the University of North Florida in 2003 with Bachelors Degrees in Business Management and Marketing. I am now working for First Coast Title Services and am a licensed real estate agent as well. I am married and have one daughter at the moment. My wife and I also have a video editing company (www.philipsvideo.com). I was recently reacquainted with some fellow Stockton Elementary grads: Chris Lahey and Paul Combs. I have not seen them since we left Stockton 15 years ago. If any other friends see this message, give me a call (904)219-6313 and reunite. Thanks for a great elementary school experience.

My Name is Tiffany Wright. I graduated in 1991 and had Ms. Barfield (2nd grade), Ms. Parson (3rd grade), Ms. Shabazz (4th grade), and Ms. Landschoot (5th grade). After Stockton I attended Northwestern Middle and then graduated from William M Raines in 1998. I graduated from Florida A&M University in 2003 with Bachelors Degrees in Computer Information Systems. I am currently working for Duval County Health Department in there Information Technology Dept as a Database Admin. It’s so funny; I was looking at my school pictures the other day and thought about how much I enjoyed attending John Stockton. I remember my classmates as if it were yesterday and we were all lined up outside singing the school song, in which I tend to still sing a lot. The three best moments for me were when I was the Principal for Fifth grade week, when we performed the Play Annie; until this day that is my favorite musical and being a patrol. If I ever become a teacher, I would love to come back to JOHN STOCKTON.

Sincerely,

Tiffany Wright-Rentz

Class of 1990

Hello from Ed Rooth,

For some reason I felt the urge to look up my old grade school tonight & came across John Stockton’s website. I guess I would have graduated in 1990. I moved to Wilmington, Ohio after the 5th grade. From there I went to the University of Cincinnati to study computer science. Now I work at a cable ad sales company in New York City.

I remember having Mrs. Foerster for 1st grade, Mrs. Barfield for 2nd, Mrs. Parsons for 3rd, Mrs. Oberdier for 4th, and Mrs. Landschoot for 5th. It’s really been a long time, but looking at this website has helped me to remember so much. If you hear anything from any of my other classmates they can contact me at ed_rooth@yahoo.com

Take Care,

Ed Rooth

I am shocked at the level of pride that I still have for the School of Dolphins.  I went to John Stockton and remember all of my teachers and the sweet personalities.  My favorite of all is my 1st grade teacher.  Mrs. Foerester's tenderness was something that motivated me from very early on.  I remember those M&M Cookies that Mr. Foerester used to bring the class every week.  I am so proud to see that she is still teaching.

My other teachers were, Mrs. Barfield for 2nd Grade, Mrs. Grayson for 3rd Grade, 4th Grade Mrs. Oberdier (she would cry everytime she would read Charlotte's Web, what make is so nice is that we cried with her) and 5th Mrs. Fallin.  I remember having a bond with teachers I didn't have, like Mrs. Cooke, Mrs. Shabazz and Mrs. Padgett.

My name is Stanley Lee (I go by Mr. S. Charles Lee) and I am preparing to run for City Commissioner in Altamonte Springs and start my political career.  I am a Manager at Sprint PCS, as well as direct pageants for Miss Florida USA.

Class of 1982 Andrea Bryant Bassett writes: My husband, Michael Bassett, and I (Andrea Bryant) graduated in 1982. We were both safety patrols, went to Washington D.C. (Michael’s mom was the patrol mother) and Nancy Snyder was the principal at the time. I believe our final year was the 1st “National Model School” year for Stockton. Jane Peer’s daughter Charlotte was also in our class, and a patrol as well.

Now that we’ve moved back into Ortega Forest, our daughter can attend the same great elementary school her parents did and we couldn’t be more excited. Thank you John Stockton!

Class of 1981
Class of 1980

Hi!  My name is Tracey Morrison Webb and I have great memories of John Stockton Elementary School!  I attended for grades 2nd – 5th and graduated in 1980.  My teachers were:

2nd grade – Beggs

3rd grade – Taylor

4th grade – Wormnest

5th grade – Shepard

I remember Mrs. Shepard was pregnant at the time and went on maternity leave sometime that year.  I also remember having Mrs. McCoy for Math in 5th grade.  She was very strict but one of the best teachers I ever had!

My best friends were Melanie McDonald & Amy Owens.  I also hung around Robin Warrick.  In the fourth grade I had a crush on Timothy Hodge!  I was a school patrol and traveled to Virginia and Washington DC.  I remember all the school patrols from various schools assembled on the steps of USl Capital to be photographed.  The picture was very large!

I loved how the entire school assembled outside once a week in the morning to sing patriotic songs and watch the patrols raise the flag.  I also have fond memories of the school carnivals & playdays.  I loved the library!

I went on to attend Bethune for 6th grade, Butler for 7th and then Jeb Stuart for 8th.  I moved to Okinawa Japan for grades 9-11 & then finally attended Green Run High School in Virginia for 12th grade.

I am now a CPA and live in Virginia.  My husband is also a CPA.  We have three children and I am fortunate enough to stay home with them.  My email address is tracey_webb@verizon.net

Class of 1977   Hello,
My name is Shelley Dearing Vignola and I graduated from Stockton Elementary School in 1977. (or there abouts). My twin sister, Amanda Dearing Matti, also graduated that year. My Older brother, David Patrick Dearing, graduated two years prior and my two younger brothers, Jason Wade Dearing and Daniel Christian Dearing,  graduated in the early to mid "80's. I am now a Kindergarten teacher and am begining my 16th year at St. George Elementary School in St. George, GA. I have been awarded Teacher of the Year three times for my school and nominated three times for Teacher of the Year for Charlton County. I live in Orange Park with my husband and hope to start a family soon. My sister lives three blocks from Stockton with her husband, James. She is a research coordinator for Nemours Hospital and a graduate of the UNF School of Nursing. She is also a proud mother of two, one of which will be attending Stockton next year. Her children are Austin James Matti (5) and Alyssa Dearing Matti (3). David is a partner at the Law firm of Raham, Watson, Dearing, Berry and Moore here in Jacksonville. He and his wife, a fellow law school graduate, are the proud parents of two, Andrew Frank Dearing (10) who went to Kindergarten at Stockton, and Avery Faye Dearing (8).  Jason graduated on a full scholarship to JU and Danny graduated from the University of Florida.Jason and Danny are both newly married and live in the San Marco area.

My teachers at Stockton, if my memory serves me right, were !st Grade - Mrs. Forester, 2nd Grade - I can't remember, 3rd Grade - Mrs. Grayson ( my favorite teacher), 4th Grade - Mrs. Clemmons, and 5th Grade - Mrs. Sheppard. My sister, Mandy, had Mrs. Beggs for 1st grade, and Mrs. McCoy for fifth. (I can't remember the rest of her teachers). The only teacher I remember David having was Mrs. Wormnest for 5th Grade. I was in college at Valdosta State University when my younger brothers went there so I am not sure of their teachers' names but you might have them on record.

I know that this was an extremely long email but with all my siblings graduating from Stockton, I thought I could bring you up to date. Also, I saw that Mrs. Cook was retiring. I was in Girl Scouts under her and Mrs. Francis and remember her daughter, Allison. I hope she enjoys her retirement. I know she deserves it. Thank you for your time. Take care and God Bless!

I was in the graduating class of 1971. We moved to Jacksonville from Hattiesburg, MS in 1970, in the latter part of my 5th grade year, although I don't recall my who my teacher was. My 6th grade teacher was Ms. Williams I believe, who passed away unexpectedly during the school year. She was replaced by Ms. Glenn (who had clear orange high heels!). I am still in contact with many of my classmates.

I now have a 3rd grader, who began her Stockton journey with kindergarten (Burrell), 1st (Edwards), 2nd (Richards) & 3rd (Stevenson) - she loves attending Stockton and her father & I concur!

I moved from the Jacksonville area shortly after graduating from Stockton Elementary. I graduated from high school in 1977 and graduated from the College of Charleston in 1981with a B.S. degree in Geology. I am now a project manager for a $400M Everglades Restoration Project in South Florida.

I embraced art during those years and went on to The Atlanta Arts Institute and Maryville University St. Louis Mo. and studied Interior Design.  Mrs. Hobbs was our principle and then Mrs. Talcott.  They were to be feared back then those ladies.  Thanks for the opportunity to write and share a lil note about a great time in my life.

I fondly remember my fifth and sixth grade years at Stockton Elementary School, where, among other activities, I was on the School Boy Patrol.  My fifth grade teacher, who remains one of my most favorite teachers, was Miss Hartman, and my sixth grade teacher was Mrs. Gross. Now over fifty years later my book, What It Means To Be a Teacher, has been reviewed in the May, 2008, edition of NEA Today in the Book Focus, Summer Reading article.  The review starts “Finally, a book about teaching that tells it how it is.”

I wanted to share my good news with the district that helped give me my start…and, if you are willing to call it to the attention of your teachers, link you to the discount at my publisher.

P.S. Hank Gonzalez and Ted Tanner I believe were the two leaders of School Boy Patrol, and two of the other miscreants...to remember and name names, ha,
When I was on School Boy patrol, it snowed...this is not a great story of responsibility...and no one until now remembered I was the originator of the idea...I pointed out to the school boy patrol that none of us had any demerits yet, so couldn't be kicked off school boy patrol if we had a snow fight in the parking lot, where the most snow had collected on the cars...the idea was an instant success...later that morning, the principal, Mrs. Hobbes, read us the riot act...fotunately no one gave me up, we all got equal demerits, and none of us lost our standing in School Boy Patrol...a bitter sweet recollection...I had always thought of myself as extremely responsible...but so it gose...a great life time memory among many from Stockton...including that this was the era when Elvis hit...best regards, michael gose
