Language Arts Program: Reading, Writing, Spelling, Grammar, and Phonics

Our Language Arts Program is based on the county selected reading curriculum from Houghton-Mufflin Invitation to Literacy. Our writing, spelling, phonics, grammar, and reading are all part of a rich and rewarding anthology of popular children stories.

Mathematics

Our second grade classes use the county adopted math series. It is a K-6 program that follows a track to math success specifically designed to meet Florida State Standards. The scope of learning in this math program spans from understanding basic concepts to developing spatial knowledge. In addition, our math program uses Math Superstar enrichment which is filled with critical thinking activities allowing students to exceed grade level expectations.

Social Studies

Neighborhoods and Communities by Macmillan/McGraw-Hill is a remarkable skill-development program that is realistic and exciting. It teaches students what they need to know, and how to use and extend what they know as they encounter new concepts and wrestle with new ideas.

Science

Discover the Wonder by Scott Foresman Science follows the constructivist approach. At the beginning of each chapter, the Discovery Activity is an invitation to learn. This hands-on, minds-on activity engages students and allows them to explore the topic. This exploration allows the teacher to observe students' readiness and understanding, then she can proceed accordingly.

In the constructivist approach to learning, teachers facilitate learning by providing appropriate activities, question, and classroom environments so students can construct their own understanding of concepts.

     We are looking forward to a "funtastic"  School year.
