All classrooms should have an American Flag RITUALS and ROUTINES: Classroom Rituals and Routines should be posted in the classroom. This will remind students of the classroom expectations, schedule, and acceptable behaviors. Rituals are the behaviors that are expected of students in the classroom. Some examples of classroom rituals are: how to get materials, how to schedule a conference, how to enter the classroom, etc. Routines is the schedule of events in the classroom. The basic routine of the Workshop model is an opening, work period, and closing. Rituals and Routines must be taught, practiced, and referred to throughout the school year. Teachers are encouraged to establish Rituals and Routines at the beginning of the school year.
STANDARDS: Standards should be displayed in the classroom and referred to often by teachers and students. All instructional activities are rooted in the standards. Both teachers and students should be able to explain how they are working towards the standards and use the language of the standards.
