Teacher Training
Professional Development is key to being a
successful teacher.
Although many may only think of professional development as sitting in a
training room with a facilitator, professional development occurs every
day. When you work with your team, when you plan your lessons, when
you reflect on the teaching day, and when you come to the
Schultz Center for training - those are all forms of professional
development.
New Teachers have several requirements
that they have to complete for federal, state and district requirements.
These requirements lead to your teaching certification and teaching
development. As a coach would have a play book with several plays,
professional development gives you the strategies and techniques that
will make your students successful.
Step 1:
Click on the Required Courses link in the left panel and look at
the courses that are listed for you to take. The courses depend
whether you are a College of Education graduate, the level you teach
(elementary or secondary) and the course(s) that you teach.
Step 2:
Review each course with your professional development facilitator (PDF)
or principal. If you do not know who he/she is, your principal
will be able to point you in the right direction. You may not need
all of the courses listed or there may be an additional course that you
need to complete.
Step 3:
Click on the Course Pacing Guide link on the left panel and
review the training timeline with your professional development
facilitator (PDF). It is important that you take the classes in
the proper order. For instance, if you need the Reading
Endorsement and ESOL Endorsement, you may have 5 years to complete all
of the ESOL courses and a shorter timeframe to complete the Reading
Endorsement. The pacing guide will help you take the courses so
they are not so overwhelming while you are beginning your teaching
career.
Step 4
There are other resources that are available to you as a new teacher.
You have an extensive support system that you should take advantage of.
Click on the link on the left panel that says New Teacher Website
to explore your resources.
Step 5
Once you are processed in the system and teaching for a couple of weeks,
your teacher profile will be in the system. At this time, you will
be able to go into the Schultz Registration system and register for
courses. This is the procedure for registration for all courses.

Center.
