Welcome to First Grade!

Dear First Grader,

Another year of learning excitement is in store for you!  We can’t wait to meet you and get started.  In order to prepare yourself for this academic adventure, please bring the supplies listed on the back of this sheet to school in August.  Your teacher will also have a wish list posted outside of their classroom for addition supplies they may need.

During the summer, follow this recipe for success:

  • You should read at least 10 minutes every day over the summer so you don’t forget what you have learned in Kindergarten.  When you are finished reading, practice retelling the story using as many details as you can.

  • Practice your neatest handwriting by writing stories about fun activities you do over the summer. Be sure to form your letters the correct way.

  •  Work on counting and writing your numbers 1- 100.

  •  Begin practicing your addition and subtraction facts 0-10.

  •  Practice writing your first and last name.

  •  Be ready to make new friends and be a friend.

We look forward to meeting you!

                         Sincerely,

                             TLAE First Grade Teachers
